Excellent Return on Investment

A business that receives around 20 calls per day is likely to spend an average of $20 per week. In most cases, just one additional sale will more than cover the cost of the number. And that’s before you take into account all the other benefits like boosting business presence, getting better results from marketing activities and making the business more efficient through an improved call handling process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Are 1800 Numbers Called Inbound Numbers?

An 1800 number can only be used for receiving calls and you can’t make calls out from the number like you can from a landline or a mobile number. That’s why they’re called inbound numbers i.e. for inbound calls only.

How Do I Get an 1800 Number?

There are two ways of getting a number. You either get issued a Free Pool Number at the time of connection or you can buy the number through ACMA Smart Numbers. As the name suggests, there is no upfront cost for Free Pool numbers, they are issued for free. However, if you elect to get a Smart Number, there is a minimum upfront cost of $250 plus and administration fee. The upfront cost depends on how memorable the number is and/or its word value. The more memorable the number is, the more expensive it becomes.

Do You Lease 1800 Numbers?

No. Business 1300 doesn’t lease inbound numbers and we encourage our customers to purchase them through the ACMA. The reason is that we believe you should own the ROU (Rights of Use) to the number and 100% control over it. In most cases it’s also a lot cheaper to buy the number rather than lease.

What Happens When I Cancel My 1800 Number?

If the number was connected from the Free Pool range, it automatically goes into ACMA quarantine and cannot be reconnected. In other words, you lose the number. If it’s a Smart Number, then the ROU holder keeps the number and can reconnect it in the future. Please note that a Smart Number needs to be connected to a network at least once in a three-year period. Please check ACMA smart numbers terms and conditions for full details.

What Happens When Someone Tries to Call the 1800 Number from Overseas?

In most cases the foreign country carrier will not allow calls to an Australian inbound number. However, there are exceptions and the overseas carrier will most likely charge the caller for the call. In addition, the Australian account holder of the inbound number will be charged the applicable international call rate. We advise our customers not to promote their inbound number to overseas callers.

Do I Need a Business to Get an 1800 Number?

Business 1300 requires an ABN to connect a service. However, if you choose to buy a Smart Number, there is no requirement for an ABN and you can do so in a private name.

How Do I Set Up a 1800 Number for Multiple Business Locations?

There are several ways to do that. Firstly, you can utilise the Geo-Routing Feature to divert calls to specific locations depending on where the call is being made from. You can also utilise the Auto Attendant function to allow callers to select the required location through the IVR prompts. And then there is the Post Code Routing function (additional charges apply) where the caller is prompted for a post code to connect them to the local branch.

How Do I Recognise If a Call Is Coming from the 1800 Number?

The Call Whisper feature is the most effective way of being alerted the call is being routed from the 1800 number. While the call is being connected, a subtle voiceover (not heard by the caller) announces the call is coming from the inbound number.

Which means they’re fully portable and are an Australia wide national number that stays with the business regardless of location. For multi-site operations, the wide range of features and functions allow the business to have just one Australia wide national number.

One Phone Number Regardless of Business Size

Whether its a SOHO operator or a multi-national company, the extensive range of call handling features allows the business to have just one Australia wide national number. There is no need for multiple business numbers regardless of the number of locations.

Largest Range of Features and Functions

Same Features as 13 and 1300 Numbers

All Inbound Numbers come with the same call handling features and functions. There is no difference in the way they can be set up to manage the inbound calls.

Difference from 1300 Numbers

Apart from the prefix, the only difference between 1800 and 1300 numbers is the call rate. Whereas its free to call a 1800 number from any Australian phone line, the caller is charged the cost of a local call when dialling a 1300 number.

They Are Inexpensive

Fully featured 1800 plans start from $15 per month including call credits. Call charges depend on the selected plan but as a rule a business that receives around 20 calls per day is likely to spend an average of $20 per week.
